Welcome to Winter Garden, Florida
Winter Garden, Florida is a young and growing community located just 14 miles west of Downtown Orlando in western Orange County, Florida. As of the 2010 census the population of Winter Garden was just 34,568 and it plays an important part in the Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area. This rather small city has a total area of just 15.6 square miles of land and only 0.19 of it is water. Winter Garden is surrounded by four distinct communities, Windermere to the south, Ocoee on the east, Oakland is positioned to the west and Lake Apopka lies to the north. The topography of Winter Garden tends to have a gentle to moderate slope and its climate is warm and humid, you might even call it a subtropical climate. There are only two major seasons each year, one is hot and rainy, usually lasting from May until October and the other is cooler from November through March, accompanied by more moderate temperature and less rainfall. The warmer climate is caused by its low elevation and its position which is relatively close to the Tropic of Cancer and the majority of the weather is affected by the constant movement of the Gulf Stream.
Historic Downtown Winter Garden hosts a fine collection of restaurants, shops and all sorts of cafe's some museums and the performing arts venue. If you head south you will find Winter Garden Village at Fowler Groves which provides a variety of chain retail and dining outlets. There is an open-air-shopping center with 1,100,000 square feet which is situated along Daniels Road north of SR 429 with a Super Target, a Lowe's and a Best Buy.
If being outdoors is what you love to do best, Winter Garden parks offer a variety of sports and leisure activities. Winter Garden host numerous public events and recreation opportunities for people of all ages and interests such as art classes, active 50+ programs, athletics and aquatics, health and fitness, nutrition classes, youth camps and recreation programs. Orange County Parks and Recreations offers the following programs and sites: The West Orange Trail, Chapin Station Neighborhood Park, West Orange Orlando Magic Recreation Center and Gym, West Orange Park Soccer Complex and the West Orange Park Dog Park.
Winter Garden's downtown district is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places and is situated in the middle of the West Orange Trail which is a must for cyclists. All along the Trail one can visit several restaurants, wander through the unique shops and relax by the fountain. Once a citrus hub, Winter Garden now enjoys a wealth of west Orange County heritage and history.
